Case Study - 'Everything Works'

This is an example of using NGOSS to characterize an enterprise. Terms from eTOM, SID, TAM & TIP (MTOSI & OSS/J) are used to describe the fictitious company used in the AMKB-50 NGOSS in Practice: Using the Solution Frameworks course. Attend one of the Hands-on Workshops and learn how you too can use NGOSS!

Everything Works is an Organization that started as a ServiceProvider with a local wireless voice ProductOffering. Their MarketStrategy was to attack the local voice consumer MarketSegment of LocalTelco, the incumbent ServiceProvider. Business has been good for Everything Works as their alternative to local landline voice has continued to grab more and more market share (MarketStatistic for MarketSegment).

LocalTelco, on the other hand, has watched its voice market share continue to erode over the past several years in both the consumer and business MarketSegmentCategories. While LocalTelco did have its own wireless business, it now partners with MobileCo (a national wireless ServiceProvider) for a wireless ProductOffering. LocalTelco also partners with SatelliteCo for a video ProductOffering. These partnerships allow LocalTelco to provide a Triple-Play ProductOffering to most of its Customers and a Quad-Play ProductOffering in select GeographicAreas. LocalTelco uses its local loop Network infrastructure to provide both the voice and data SimpleProductOfferings. The data SimpleProductOffering relies upon DSL connectivity Service.

CableCo also competes in the Everything Works region and provides a Triple-Play ProductOffering of video, data and voice. CableCo does not have a mobile component in their ProductLine. The CableCo BundledProductOffering relies upon cable connectivity Service.

SatelliteCo primarily provides a video ProductOffering, the exception being its partnership with LocalTelco to provide their video SimpleProductOffering. SatelliteCo relies upon satellite connectivity Service.

Everything Works competes primarily in the consumer MarketSegment with their mobile voice ProductOffering. Within this MarketSegment wireless penetration rates (MarketStatistic) are very high across most PartyDemographic categories. And competition is quite keen amongst the Competitors (CompetitorMarketSegment).

ProductLine can be used to define CompetitiveTiers and is also a type of ProductSpecificationType that is used to classify ProductSpecifications. Everything Works is a Tier-2 Competitor in the consumer market with their mobile voice ProductOffering.

If you are an Individual with responsibility for one of these PartyRoles:

  • CEO or CIO; Managing Director or VP; General Manager or AVP; Program or Project Manager
  • Business or Solution Consultant
  • Process, Information, Application or SOA Service Architect
  • Business or Process Analyst
  • Solution Designer

Then Everything Works is looking for you!

Come to one of the AMKB-50 NGOSS in Practice: Using the Solution Frameworks courses and learn how to help Everything Works solve these business challenges using NGOSS and the Solution Frameworks:

In working up your proposed solution be sure to reference the appropriate SID Business Entity required to support the activities in your processes. And reference the appropriate TAM Business Application required to support the activities and provide access, manipulation and persistence of Business Entities you've identified. It will also be necessary for you to identify the TIP API (MTOSI and/or OSS/J) that wil best provide access to the capability offered by the TAM application you've identified.

We look forward to seeing you in class and through your Everything Works internship learning how to put NGOSS and the Solution Frameworks into practice!
